How to unlink universal analytics and google analytics 4 properties

You may see this notice when logging into your Google Analytics account:

On July 1, 2023, this property will stop processing data. Starting in March 2023, for continued website measurement, migrate your original property settings to a Google Analytics 4 (GA4) property, or they’ll be copied for you to an existing GA4 property, reusing existing site tags.

You need to delete a Universal Analytics property from your Google Analytics account after upgrade to the new Google Analytics 4.

On the bottom left side, select the Admin page. There you will need to select Property => Property Settings. On this “Property Settings” page, click on the Move to Trash Can button on the top right, then click the Move to Trash button on the Move Property to Trash Can page.

If the Universal Analytics property is linked or associated with the new Google Analytics 4 property, you won’t be able to delete the Universal Analytics property.

This property is part of a link between a Universal Analytics property and a Google Analytics 4 property and can’t be deleted.

In such a case, you can follow these steps to unlink a Universal Analytics property from a Google Analytics 4 property.

Navigate to Admin >> Property. In this Property column, select the classic Universal Analytics property you want to remove. You will then find the GA4 Setup Assistant option beneath. Click on it to open the Google Analytics 4 Property Setup Assistant page.

Here you can find that you have connected your GA4 property and the class UA property. There will be a Connected Property section where you can disconnect your properties at any time by clicking the Disconnect button.
